Bringing Sikh Legacy to Life on the Walls of Panjab’s Villages

Across the vibrant fields of Panjab, a quiet revolution is underway. Through art, colour, and history, SAF International is painting the past onto the present — one village wall at a time.

Paint Panjab with Sikh History is a unique, ongoing initiative that brings powerful moments from Sikh history to life through public mural art. By painting large-scale, emotionally stirring Sikh history scenes across villages in Panjab, this project connects everyday people — especially children and youth — with the legacy of their ancestors.

Impact at a Glance

  • Over 50 villages already transformed with historical Sikh murals
  • Dozens of artists and youth given meaningful work and mentorship opportunities
  • Murals painted on residential and community walls in partnership with local families

The Concept

SAF’s team — made up of talented local artists and our founder who is spearheading this project — creates beautiful, large-format murals of iconic Sikh moments:

  • Guru Gobind Singh Ji  & the birth of the Khalsa in 1699
  • Shaheed Sukha Singh & Mehtab Singh confronting injustice
  • Scenes from Ardaas brought alive on school walls
  • Depictions of Sikh women warriors, saints, and scenes from rural Sikh life

These aren't just paintings — they are living history lessons on village walls.

Imagine walking down a dusty road and seeing a majestic mural of Guru Gobind Singh Ji addressing the Khalsa at Sri Anandpur Sahib. Or turning a corner and encountering a vibrant portrait of Sikh freedom fighters or Baba Deep Singh ji standing tall with a Khanda in their hand. These images turn ordinary paths into sacred walkways, sparking thought, pride, and curiosity in every passerby.

Community-Driven & Artist-Led

This project thrives on the partnership of village residents, who proudly offer the walls of their homes, shops, and public spaces for these artworks.

Local sangat members have embraced the project with open arms — seeing it not just as decoration, but as a sewa, a way to keep Sikh history alive in their everyday lives.

Meanwhile, dozens of emerging artists across Punjab have found a platform through SAF. We are creating jobs and appreciating their art, while igniting a passion for art in the younger generation.

Why This Matters

In an age of digital distractions, this project brings real, visual inspiration directly to rural communities.

It answers questions like:

  • Who are we as Sikhs?
  • What stories shaped our identity?
  • How can we honour our past while empowering our future?

These murals speak not only to those who see them — but also to the generations that will grow up under their gaze.
