Clean Water, Fresh Hope: Kamutha’s Story
In the remote village of Kamutha in India, the land is harsh—rocky, stony, and resistant to most forms of water excavation. Digging for water was not only expensive, it was often fruitless. Several attempts to drill borewells came up dry. With no reliable water source, families—especially women and children—were forced to walk long distances just to collect small amounts of water. The lack of clean water wasn’t just an inconvenience—it was affecting health, disrupting education, and consuming hours of each day.
In 2021, SAF International took on this challenge. Despite the difficult terrain, we successfully drilled a borewell that struck clean water. But we didn’t stop there. We installed a motorized pump, a large water storage tank, and user-friendly faucets to prevent water wastage. To ensure families could easily collect and store water, we distributed water cans throughout the community.

The results were nothing short of transformational. For the first time, families in Kamutha have access to clean, safe water—right in their village. Children have returned to school, no longer burdened by the daily task of fetching water. Women have regained hours of their day to care for their families, contribute to their households, or pursue other opportunities. The ever-present anxiety over where the next drop of water would come from has been replaced with peace of mind—and hope.
In 2023, our CEO personally visited Kamutha to witness the change. It was a heartfelt and emotional visit. Seeing firsthand how access to water had reshaped the lives of these families reaffirmed our mission—and strengthened our resolve to bring similar change to other villages.
Kamutha is just one story among millions. There are still 35 million people across India without access to safe drinking water. But together, we can change that.
